Ottorino Volonterio (born December 7, 1917 in Orselina ; † March 10, 2003 in Lugano ) was a Swiss automobile racing driver .
Career
Volonterio, a lawyer from Locarno , drove sports car races in Maserati racing vehicles with a lot of enthusiasm and few results in the early 1950s . His greatest success was second place at the Coupé de Paris 1955 in Montlhéry .
He drove his first Formula 1 Grand Prix in Pedralbes in Spain in 1954 when he took over the Maserati 250F from Toulo de Graffenried . With engine failure, Volonterio had to give up prematurely.
All in all, the Swiss, who was far too slow for a Formula 1 driver, drove three World Championship races. At the Nürburgring 1956 he crossed the finish line six laps behind the winner, Juan Manuel Fangio . At the 1957 Italian Grand Prix in Monza , he shared the Maserati with André Simon . The deficit at the finish on the winner Stirling Moss was 15 laps.
