Hans-Dieter Blatzheim

Hans-Dieter Blatzheim (* 1937 or 1938 in Wachtberg ; † August 14, 1985 on the Nürburgring ) was a German building contractor and racing car driver .

Racing career

Blatzheim began his motorsport career in the early 1960s. From 1962 to 1964 he only competed in the 500 and 1000 km races at the Nürburgring of the sports car world championship . He achieved his first class win there in 1964 together with Dieter Mohr in a Martini BMW racing car in the prototype GT 850 class.

After a break, Blatzheim drove again from 1968 to 1970 races in the brand world championship. First he drove a Porsche 911 S , from 1969 a 911 T, which he replaced with a Porsche 910 in the middle of the year . A year later, he drove several world championship races in a Porsche 907 . At the 1000 km race in Spa-Francorchamps he and Ernst Kraus achieved his best result in this racing series with victory in the 2-liter prototype class and 13th overall.

In addition, from 1970 Blatzheim competed in some races of the newly established European sports car championship and the Interseries . His greatest success in the European sports car championship was third place in the race at the Hockenheimring. In the Interseries, he achieved his best result with seventh place in the 300 km race in Hockenheim.

In addition, he drove from 1968 in many national and international non-championship races, in which he won several class wins and podiums. Blatzheim celebrated his first and only overall victory in his amateur driver career in 1970 at the Hockenheim final sports car race. After this race he ended his racing career.

Then Blatzheim drove in historic races in the 1980s. On August 14, 1985, he died in a serious accident in his Porsche 917/10 during test drives for the Oldtimer Grand Prix on the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit .

Career as an entrepreneur

In 1976, Blatzheim took over the management of the construction company founded by his father in 1931, which benefited from the many housing construction contracts in the city of Bonn after the Second World War . After his death in 1985, his wife took over the company that still exists today.
