The tyrannical governor of a Mexican province, Don Juan de Leyra, has been resisting for some time in the person of Quintana, on whom a bounty has been placed. Don Juan has the fiancé of the wealthy heiress Virginia, Manuel, arrested on the pretext of attacking four soldiers, because he himself has kept an eye on his person and property. Quintana intervenes and can free Manuel; don Juan then takes Virginia under his control in order to force her to marry, which in turn fills don Juan's lover, Perla, with jealousy. She's looking to work with Manuel to get Virginia out of it. But when trying to do this, Manuel is also captured. The preparations for the wedding are in full swing.
Having been briefed by a priest, Quintana gathers several men and sets out to prevent the worst. They find Manuel dead, killed by the broken Don Juan; Because of the fighting between insurgents and Don Juan's soldiers, the wedding ceremony is first disrupted and then broken off. Don Juan dies in a duel with Quintana.
