Rudi Lins
Rudolf "Rudi" Lins (born June 28, 1944 in Bludenz ) is a former Austrian racing driver and entrepreneur.
Career
Rudi Lins was confronted with the automobile phenomenon at a young age. His father ran a Volkswagen dealership in Bludenz and was one of the first Porsche dealers in Austria . Lins himself trained as a motor vehicle master and began a career in motorsport in the mid-1960s. He financed the first races through his parents' business. In 1965 he became Austrian sports car champion in a Porsche 356 and from 1966 onwards he won the title of Austrian mountain champion three times in a row. When he won the European Hill Climb Championship for sports cars in a Porsche 906 Carrera 6 in 1967 , he had long been a works driver at Porsche.
On the circuit he became a successful sports car driver in the late 1960s and was one of the illustrious circle of Porsche works drivers. In 1968 he finished second in a Porsche 910 with Vic Elford in the 1000 km race in Paris and in 1969 with Richard Attwood fourth in the 1000 km race at the Nürburgring and third in the 6-hour race at Watkins Glen with Joe Buzzetta . A Porsche 908 was the emergency vehicle on both occasions . The man from Vorarlberg celebrated his greatest international success in 1970 at the Le Mans 24-hour race , where he finished third in the overall standings as a partner of Helmut Marko .
After the 1000 km race in Zeltweg in 1971 , which he and Erwin Kremer finished in tenth place, he surprisingly announced his retirement. He spent the next few years on adventure travel and took over his parents' car dealership in the mid-1970s.
