1000 km Paris race

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Paris 1000 km race was an endurance sports car race held in Montlhéry and Rouen .

The event

The Paris 1000km race was first held in 1956 and ended with a victory for Jean Behra and Louis Rosier in a Maserati 300S . Between 1960 and 1970 the race took place regularly except for 1963 and 1965. In 1962 and 1964 it was part of the sports car world championship . In 1964 there was also the most momentous accident when the German Peter Lindner and the Italian Franco Patria had a fatal accident in a collision, killing three marshals with them.

When the uneven banked curve track became too dangerous for motorsport events, French motorsport decided in 1972 to relocate the race to Rouen.

In 1994 the endurance race was revived as part of the BPR Global GT Series, but there were only two events and since 1995 the race is definitely history.
