Karl Thaller

Karl Thaller (born December 29, 1958 in Bruck an der Mur ) is an Austrian basketball official .

Life

Thaller came to Montan Speditions GesmbH in the mid-1980s as an assistant to the management, and later became the company's managing partner.

In the summer of 1997, Montan became the main sponsor of the Bundesliga club Kapfenberg Basket Bears , while Thaller took over the offices of president and chairman of the club. In 2003 the team changed their name to Superfund Bulls Kapfenberg. During Thaller's tenure as club chairman, he won the state championship in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. Among other things, he is credited with taking the club to a new level economically.

In 2012 Thaller resigned his offices in Kapfenberg and was unanimously elected as the new President of the Austrian Basketball Association (ÖBV) in May 2012. In 2014 he was elected financial officer of the European basketball association FIBA Europe , in April 2015 he gave up the chairmanship of the ÖBV in order to concentrate on his tasks at FIBA.
