The 1000 km race of Silverstone 2010 , also Autosport 1000 km of Silverstone, Silverstone , took place on September 12th at the Silverstone Circuit and was the fifth and final round of the Le Mans Series of this year.

The race

At the 1000 km race in Silverstone, the Peugeot and Audi factory cars met again . Joest Racing , the Audi team, registered two Audi R15 TDIs for two drivers each. Allan McNish shared the cockpit of the car with the number 7 with Tom Kristensen . Her ancestral team-mate Rinaldo Capello drove the vehicle with the number 8 together with Timo Bernhard . Peugeot only had one works car on the route, which was used by the Oreca - 908 HDi FAP . Anthony Davidson and Nicolas Minassian drove the works car . Nicolas Lapierre and Peugeot works driver Stéphane Sarrazin drove the Oreca car .

Qualification training was dominated by the Audis. Allan McNish set the fastest lap with a time of 1: 43.475 minutes. He was 0.5 seconds faster than his team-mate Timo Bernhard and more than a second than the two Peugeots. In contrast to practice, the Audis had considerable problems with the drivability of the R15 TDI from the start. During the race, the drivers repeatedly complained about severe understeer over the pit radio. Just a few laps after the start of the race, Anthony Davidson in the Peugeot managed to overtake Allan McNish in the Audi. For Anthony Davidson it was the first race start since the 2008 Spanish Grand Prix , where he drove a Super Aguri SA08 , and the first flying start ever. For McNish's Audi, the race ended after 15 laps due to transmission damage. After that, the two Peugeot were safe. Second place was enough for Stéphane Sarrazin to win the drivers' championship in the Le Mans Series and Oreca to win the team championship in the LMP1 class.
