Jeppe Prehn (born August 24, 1803 in Copenhagen , † November 28, 1850 in Reichenbach, Vogtland) was a German-Danish administrative lawyer and bailiff .

Life

Jeppe Prehn grew up the first years of his life in Copenhagen, where his Tønder- born father Johann Friedrich Prehn (1771–1833) worked in the Royal Chamber of Rent. He then attended the cathedral school in Ratzeburg and studied from 1821 at the University of Göttingen and from 1822 at the University of Kiel . Although he was more interested in mathematics , he passed his law exam in 1825 and, like his father, initially worked for the Rentkammer in Copenhagen. In 1834 he was a steward in the Lauenburg Office Steinhorst and was in 1848 as a bailiff for Ratzeburg added. He died in 1850 on a vacation trip to Italy.

Jeppe Prehn did not let go of mathematics in his professional life either and he published essays in mathematical journals such as August Crelle's in the journal for pure and applied mathematics . He was also interested in technology and dealt with steam engines . He invented a special caloric machine , for which he also received a patent , but his idea was not taken up by any manufacturer.

The Schleswig-Holstein politician Friedrich Christian Prehn was his brother.
