The Formula Regional European Championship is a FIA - Formula 3 race series. The championship was held for the first time in 2019. On October 12, 2018 it was announced that the Italian motorsport association Automobile Club d'Italia (ACI) and the kart promoter WSK will organize the championship. Their offer was preferred to that of Renault Sport with the same chassis, which received fewer votes in the vote in the FIA ​​Single Seater Commission.

The championship consists of eight races, half of which will be held in Italy. The series awards points for the FIA super license .

In 2019 Frederik Vesti - Prema Powerteam - won the first season with 467 points. Prema won the team championship.

Sporting regulations

Course of the race weekend

Each race weekend includes three races. A race will take place on Saturday after the two qualifying laps. Two more races will start on Sunday. There are two free practice sessions of 40 minutes each on each race weekend. They take place on the first day. There are then two 15-minute qualifying sessions to determine the starting order. If a driver does not achieve 110 percent of the pole position time, he will not be admitted to the race. Every driver must have participated in at least one free practice session on every race weekend in order to be admitted to the races.

Distribution of points

The scoring is based on the current Formula 1 point system . Thus, the winner of a race receives 25, the second 18, the third 15 points up to the tenth place, who receives the last point. No additional points are awarded for pole position or the fastest race lap.

Super license points

The master of the series receives 25 points for the super license , the runner-up 20, the third 15 points up to the ninth placed, who receives the last available point for the super license.

Prize money

A total of 200,000 euros in prize money will be paid out at the end of the season, of which 100,000 euros each go to the best drivers and the best teams. The champions of the driver or team classification of the racing series will receive 40,000 euros. 30,000 euros will be paid out to the respective runner-up and 20,000 euros to the third-placed. The best placed rookie driver (newcomer) receives 10,000 euros. The fourth-placed team in the final ranking also accounts for 10,000 euros.

Test days

The organizers of the racing series organize four test days before the start of the season, in which every registered team must participate. Aside from the official test days, each driver can hold ten additional test days with the vehicle.

The F3 T-318 from Tatuus is used in the championship. The chassis are monocoques made of carbon fiber reinforced plastic and have a number of new safety features , including Halo systems and improved side impact protection.

engine and gears

Shifting takes place via a sequential six-speed gearbox with paddles on the steering wheel. The drive is a 1750 TBi - turbo engine of Alfa Romeo used, the by Autotechnica Motori is prepared. The engine has an output of 200 kW (272 hp) at a speed of 6,000 rpm. Each driver is only allowed to use two different engines per season, this also includes private and collective test days.

tires

As tires are slicks of Pirelli used. For every official session (practice, qualifying, race) every driver receives two new dry and wet tire sets. Only two different sets of dry tires may be used per session. Tire sets that have already been used may, however, be used again. The rain tires may only be fitted during practice and qualifying if the race director gives permission for this. This regulation does not apply to the race.
