Igor Omura Fraga (born September 26, 1998 in Kanazawa ) is a Brazilian - Japanese racing car driver and e-athlete . He enters the season 2020 in the FIA Formula 3 Championship at.

Career

Karting

Fraga's first experience with go-karts was made in 2002 at the age of three when he was taking part in kart training in Japan; He competed in his first karting competitions in 2004. Before Fraga took part in international competitions, he won seven national karting titles in various categories.

Formula racing

Fraga started his formula career in the Brazilian Formula 1600, where he celebrated a win in São Paulo in his first season . He finished the championship in seventh place. In the same year he started two races in the Brazilian Formula Vee and finished both in third place. From 2015 to 2017 Fraga started with PropCar Racing in the Brazilian Formula 3 , which he won in 2017. At the same time, Fraga also drove for PropCar Racing in the Mexican Formula 4 championship in 2017, which he finished with the runner -up title in 2018. Also in 2018 he started in the US F2000 National Championship , where he finished fourth with three podium finishes at the end of the season. In 2019 he drove with the DR Formula RP Motorsport team in the new Formula Regional European Championship racing series . He finished the championship behind Frederik Vesti and Enzo Fittipaldi in third place with a total of four wins in Spielberg , Imola and two times in Monza . During the winter break between the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Fraga competed in the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand . He drove for the M2 Automotive team and was able to oust defending champion and Red Bull Junior Liam Lawson from first place with a win in the last race, the New Zealand Grand Prix . He will be the first e-athlete to compete in the 2020 FIA Formula 3 season . He competes there alongside David Schumacher and Niko Kari for Charouz Racing System . In March 2020 Fraga was announced as a member of the Red-Bull Junior Team .

E-sports

In addition to his career as a racing driver, Fraga is also an active e-athlete. In 2017 he was one of the finalists of the Formula 1 eSports championship, where he competed with 19 other e-athletes in Abu Dhabi for the virtual Formula 1 world championship. With six points from three races, he finished 18th. In 2018 Fraga won the first Nations Cup of the FIA-certified Gran Turismo Championship. In 2019 he won the manufacturer series for Toyota with his teammates Tomoaki Yamanaka and Rayan Derrouiche. In 2018, Fraga also won the McLaren Shadow Competition, which is why he was accepted into the McLaren e-Sport team. The Shadow Competition goes beyond pure simulator racing, also tests physical fitness and includes a track day with a McLaren 570 GT4 . Fraga's esports career represented a more affordable way to continue working on his career despite being denied major sponsors. After his Gran Turismo title, however, he was able to transfer his experience and contacts to sponsors into formula racing. He drove in the Toyota Racing Series and Formula Regional Europe sponsored by Gran Turismo. In 2020 Fraga will only contest selected Gran Turismo events from the World Tour; the Formula 3 calendar does not allow other e-sports events.

Personal

Fraga was born in Japan, both parents are Brazilian. In addition to his native Portuguese, Fraga also speaks English, Japanese and Spanish.

Fraga's father left his job to support his son full-time in the pursuit of his racing career. At the beginning of their careers, they sometimes lived in rental cars in order to be able to cover the costs of racing starts.
