David Schumacher (racing driver)

David Schumacher (born October 23, 2001 in Salzburg ) is a German automobile racing driver . He drives in the 2020 FIA Formula 3 Championship .

Career

Schumacher started his motorsport career in karting and in 2017 he finished 2nd in the German Junior Kart Championship and 13th in the CIK FIA European Kart Championship.

In the same year he signed with his father Ralf Schumacher's Formula 4 racing team US Racing CHRS .

At the end of 2017, Schumacher completed a season in the UAE Formula 4 championship . Here he ran for the Rasgaira Motorsports team , with whom US Racing had negotiated a cooperation for one season. Since the season in the UAE Formula 4 takes place at the turn of the year, this was seen as the ideal preparation for the German Formula 4 championship , which starts in spring .

After a strong season with three wins and only two finishes without a podium, Schumacher was runner-up behind Charles Weerts . With this success Schumacher received his first points for the FIA super license .

In the 2018 season of the German Formula 4 championship, Schumacher drove as planned for his father Ralf's US Racing CHRS team . At the end of the season he was ninth overall and best rookie ahead of Niklas Krütten .

After driving the first season of the new Formula Regional European Championship in 2019 , where he finished fourth among 20 drivers, he was promoted to regular Formula 3 for the 2020 season .

Personal

David is the son of the former German racing driver and today's team boss of the US Racing CHRS team in the German Formula 4 Championship , Ralf Schumacher , and the German TV celebrity Cora Schumacher . His uncle is Michael Schumacher , the Formula 1 record world champion. His cousin Mick Schumacher is also active in formula racing.

He commutes between his home town of Bergheim and a private school in Neuss , as this offers him the best opportunity to pursue racing and graduate from school.

David Schumacher sat in a kart for the first time at the age of four.
