Jonathan Aberdein (born February 14, 1998 in Cape Town ) is a South African racing car driver . In 2019 he started for the W Racing Team in the DTM .
Career
Jonathan Aberdein is the son of the South African racing driver Chris Aberdein .
In 2016 he made his debut for Motopark in the German Formula 4 Championship . With a second place in the third race of Zandvoort he was able to place on the podium once. He also competed for Motopark in the Formula 4 championship of the United Arab Emirates in 2016/17 , in which he became champion. In 2017 he reached ninth place in the German Formula 4 Championship with four podium places. In the 2018 season he competed in the European Formula 3 Championship . With three third places as the best results, he was twelfth in the overall classification.
In 2019 , Aberdein drove an Audi customer car in the DTM for the W Racing Team . There he was Pietro Fittipaldi's team-mate and, together with BMW driver Sheldon van der Linde, the first South African driver in the history of the racing series. In his first two races in Hockenheim he reached 15th and 12th place. In Misano , he scored his first rating points. Overall, he was able to place in eight of the 18 races in the points. Two fourth places in the Sunday race in Assen and in the Saturday race at the Nürburgring were his best results. He scored a total of 67 points and finished the season in tenth place in the drivers' standings.
