Callum Ilott (born November 11, 1998 ) is a British automobile racing driver . He became European kart champion in 2014. In 2018 he drove in the GP3 series and ended up third in the overall standings. He has been competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship since 2019 .

Career

Ilott began his motorsport career in karting in 2008 , where he remained active until 2014. In 2012 he won the KF3 class of the WSK Master Series and the WSK Final Cup . In the WSK Euro Series and in the CIK-FIA World Cup he came second in the KF3 class. In 2013 he became champion in the KF category in the WSK Final Cup . In 2014, Ilott won the WSK Super Master Series and the CIK-FIA European Championship in the KF class . In the CIK-FIA World Championship he reached fourth place.

In 2015 Ilott switched to formula racing and Red Bull accepted him into its sponsorship program. Initially, Ilott competed for ETEC Motorsport in the Toyota Racing Series 2015 in New Zealand. He finished fourth three times and finished the season in 16th place overall. Then Ilott started for Carlin in the European Formula 3 championship in 2015 . He was the only driver who was rated in every race. With a third place as the best result, he was twelfth in the drivers' championship. At the end of the year, Ilott left the Red Bull funding program. In 2016 Ilott completed his second season in the European Formula 3 championship for Van Amersfoort Racing . He won a race on the first race weekend. Another victory followed in the further course of the season. He was on the podium six times in total. In the championship he improved to sixth place. In 2017 , Ilott switched to the Prema Powerteam within the European Formula 3 championship . At the same time he became the first British member of the Ferrari Driver Academy .

FIA Formula 2 Championship

Illot has been taking part in the FIA Formula 2 Championship since 2019 . In his debut season, which he finished in 11th place with 74 points, he started for the Czech team Sauber Junior Team by Charouz . His teammate at the time was the American Juan Manuel Correa . In 2019, Ilott clinched two podium places in Barcelona and Sochi as well as a pole position in Monza . For the 2020 season, Ilott will be competing alongside Guanyu Zhou for UNI-Virtuosi Racing , where he has already won the season opener in Spielberg .
