Matias Laine (born April 25, 1990 in Joensuu ) is a Finnish automobile racing driver . He competed in Formula Renault 3.5 in 2013 and 2014 .

Career

Laine began his motorsport career in karting in 2003 , where he was active until 2008. Among other things, he won the Finnish ICA Junior Kart Championship in 2005 and the Finnish Formula A Kart Championship in 2007 . After taking part in two Formula Renault winter championships in the winter of 2008 , he switched to the British Formula Renault in 2009. Laine finished each of the first twelve races in the points and then had to end the season prematurely due to an injury. In the overall standings, he finished 14th. He also competed in four races in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup .

In 2010 Laine returned to motorsport and started for the German racing team Motopark Academy in the Formula 3 Euro Series . He scored points in only three races and finished 14th overall at the end of the season. In 2011 Laine moved to Manor Racing in the GP3 series . While his teammates Adrian Quaife-Hobbs and Rio Haryanto won races, Laine remained without points. He finished the season in 31st place in the overall standings. In 2012 Laine completed his second GP3 season for MW Arden . He regularly scored points, won a race and made a total of four podiums. At the end of the season he was fifth in the drivers' standings, while his team-mate Mitch Evans won the overall standings and his team-mate David Fumanelli came eleventh.

In 2013 , Laine switched to Formula Renault 3.5 for P1 Motorsport , which was taken over by Strakka Racing after the first event . With a seventh place as the best result, he was 23rd in the drivers' championship. With 9 to 148 points he was defeated by Will Stevens , who was fourth overall. In 2014 , Laine stayed with Strakka Racing in Formula Renault 3.5. With a fourth place as the best result, he improved to 13th place in the overall ranking. With 39 to 122 points he was again defeated internally by Stevens.
