Like most motorsport enthusiasts , Melker began his career in karting , in which he was active from 2001 to 2006. Among other things, he won the German junior championship in 2005 and the runner-up title of the European ICA championship. After a one year break, he moved in 2008 to the single-seater racing and he started in the Northern European Formula Renault , where he finished twelfth overall, and in the Italian Formula Renault, where he finished ranked 18th In 2009, his main focus was on his involvement in the Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup , in which he contested most of the races of the season and finished 23rd overall. He also started in some races of the Northern European Formula Renault and finished this championship in 18th place overall.
Melker for Mücke Motorsport in the 2011 Formula 3 Euro Series
In 2010 Melker switched to the newly founded GP3 series for the German racing team RSC Mücke Motorsport . Although he had achieved pole position on the first two race weekends , he only made it into the points in one race. He finished the season in 23rd place in the overall standings. His team came last in the team ranking. He also made two guest starts in German Formula 3 . In 2011 Melker contested his second GP3 season for RSC Mücke Motorsport. At the season opener, he scored his first and only win of the season. As the best driver of his team, he finished the season in third place overall. In 2011 Melker also took part in the Formula 3 Euro Series for Mücke Motorsport and three races for the 2011 FIA Formula 3 Trophy . He also won the first race in the Formula 3 Euro Series. At the end of the season he finished fourth in the drivers' championship with three more victories. Within the team he prevailed against Felix Rosenqvist with 251 to 219 points . At the end of the year Melker took part in the GP2 Final 2011 for DAMS and finished 20th.
In 2012 Melker switched to Ocean Racing Technology in the GP2 series . With a fourth place as the best result, he was 19th in the drivers' standings. While Melker had scored 25 points, his changing teammates came together on one point. In addition, Melker took part in a Formula Renault 3.5 race weekend for the Lotus team, which is supported by Charouz Racing System . He achieved a third place. In 2013 , Melker received a cockpit in the Formula Renault 3.5 at Tech 1 Racing . Two second places in Spielberg were his best results. Melker finished the season in sixth place with four podium finishes. With 136 to 33 points he prevailed against his teammate Mikhail Aljoschin .
