DTM (blue) and ITC (red) venues in the 1995 season.

A total of 24 races were held in Germany , Italy , Finland , Great Britain , Portugal and France . Two runs took place on each of the 12 race weekends. The first DTM round took place on April 23, 1995 at the Hockenheimring and the season finale also took place on October 16 at the Hockenheimring. The first race belonging to the ITC started on May 21st at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello . The last ITC race of the season was held on October 8th on the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours .

Bernd Schneider won both championship titles in the AMG Mercedes C-Class DTM with 138 points in the DTM and 155 points in the ITC.

history

The Opel Team Rosberg ...
... and the Mercedes team Zakspeed in Helsinki

For the first time in DTM history, the first race of the season did not take place in Zolder , Belgium . The reason for the waiver was the planned internationalization of the series. The races of the ITR Gold Cup from previous years became a permanent fixture in the racing calendar. The races were held under the name ITC, which was not yet fixed at the start of the season, and the races in Germany were still as DTM. A race in Spain, on the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona and one in Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium were originally planned. The race in Barcelona, which was planned as the final race, had to be canceled due to a timing discrepancy with the Motorcycle Grand Prix . Spa was canceled because the owner of the circuit, Bernie Ecclestone , was unable to carry out the necessary advertising in such a short time.

Since the race in Zolder did not take place, the Hockenheimring was now the venue for the start of the season. The late date of the first race was also unusual; the season usually started at the beginning of April, but this year it was postponed by almost three weeks. Opel , in particular, was unable to use the development advantage it had gained over the competition at the beginning of the year, but Mercedes-Benz and Alfa Romeo used the time to their advantage, quickly caught up and especially Mercedes-Benz outperformed the challengers. At the start of the season, Mercedes-Benz was able to provide five of the six works drivers with the latest version of the V6 C-Class . Alfa Romeo cost accidents in the test phase, Nicola Larini only survived one with a lot of luck unharmed, a lot of technology and experience, so the two new cars for Larini and Nannini were brand new and without test experience. All other models from the Italians were revised versions of the preseason and were only gradually modified in the course of the season. Opel had to swap the new cars back and forth among the drivers several times due to multiple accidents and could not let Yannick Dalmas and Ni Amorim drive at all at times. The tight schedule also made it difficult for the teams and manufacturers to advance the technology on the cars. The racing calendar comprised twelve racing weekends with an average of two weeks between the events.

After BMW retired from the DTM at the end of 1993, all of the remaining private BMW teams also left the championship. The reigning champion, Klaus Ludwig moved surprisingly before the season of Mercedes-Benz works team AMG the new Opel team Rosberg, next to the Formula 1 world champion of 1982 and team owner Keke Rosberg .
