Gerhard "Gerd" Ruch (born November 21, 1953 in Bad Hersfeld ) is a former German automobile racing driver , racing team owner and today's building technician . Between 1988 and 1995 he competed in over one hundred races in the German Touring Car Championship . His brother Jürgen was also a racing driver.

Racing

In the German racing championship , Ruch started a total of three races in the 1975 and 1976 seasons .

In 1985 Gerd Ruch drove a Ford Escort RS1600i Group A built by AutoVeri from Berlin in the ETTC (European Touring Car Championship). He shared the cockpit with his brother Jürgen and B.Jähn.

In 1988 Gerd Ruch entered the German Touring Car Championship with his own team . The team used a Ford Mustang because, according to their own information, they could not afford the increasingly complex technology of the works teams. However, Ruch was not able to use the Mustang competitively and so four points in seven years were the total yield. In 1995 , in recognition of his achievements in the DTM, Gerd Ruch received a Mercedes-Benz C-Class designed by AMG for use as a semi-works team.

Despite - or perhaps because of - the constant lack of success, Gerd Ruch was one of the most popular drivers in the field in the Ford Mustang. The move to Mercedes-Benz was considered treason for many fans.

In 1996 Ruch competed in the Global GT Championship , where he finished third in the overall standings in a Porsche 911 GT2 and first in the GT2 standings together with Bruno Eichmann and Ralf Kelleners . In 1997 and 1998 he started in the FIA GT Championship .

Gerd Ruch then ended his motorsport career and concentrated more on his building technology company .
