from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hans Heyer won the DRM championship in 1976 for the second time after 1975

The 1976 German Racing Championship was the fifth season of the German Racing Championship (DRM).

championship

Ten races were held in the 1st and 2nd divisions. The first race took place on May 2nd at the Nürburgring and the last race of the season took place at the Hockenheimring on September 26th.

This season, in addition to Group 2 and Group 4 racing cars, which were built according to the 1975 regulations, new vehicles according to the 1976 homologation were also registered. Since only Porsche offered a car according to the new regulations with the 934 , this Group 4 racing car was mainly used by teams that started in the 1st division.

For the first time from this season points were also awarded internationally and not exclusively to drivers with a German racing license.

Hans Heyer won his second championship title with a Ford Escort II RS with 160 points ahead of Klaus Ludwig . Who was also able to secure the runner-up title for the second time.
