German racing championship 1977

Rolf Stommelen won the DRM title in 1977

The German Racing Championship 1977 was the sixth season of the German Racing Championship (DRM).

championship

Ten races were held in the 1st and 2nd divisions. The first race took place on March 13th for the first time in the DRM not on the Nürburgring , but in Zolder . It was also the first DRM race that was not driven on a German racetrack. From the 1977 season races outside of Germany were held regularly and the racing series also became popular with international audiences. The last race of the season took place at the Nürburgring on October 2nd.

From 1977 only Group 5 racing cars were allowed, which were divided into divisions 1 and 2 depending on the cubic capacity. In the 2nd division only vehicles with a maximum displacement of two liters were permitted. All racing cars with more cubic capacity started in the 1st division. For older racing cars in groups 2 and 4 there were exemptions so that they could continue to be used.

Rolf Stommelen won the championship title with a Porsche 935 with 160 points.
