The 1978 German Racing Championship was the seventh season of the German Racing Championship (DRM).

There were 11 races in the 1st and 2nd division. The first race took place on March 12th in Zolder and the last race of the season took place at the Nürburgring on October 1st.

The Austrian Harald Ertl won the championship in a BMW 320 Turbo 1.4 with 162 points.
