Pedro Couceiro (born March 23, 1970 in Lobito , Angola ) is a Portuguese racing driver .

Career

Couceiro was born in what was then the Portuguese colony of Angola and moved to Portugal with his parents in 1974. He started singing and recorded some records. From the age of 12 he used the income to finance his passion for motorsport, inspired by the races of his older brother Nuno. In February 1983 he took part in his first kart race, in the junior class Categoria Primavera in the Autódromo do Estoril , in which he finished second.

Couceiro then began his career in the Portuguese Formula Ford Championship, in which he became champion in 1990. He then drove for two years in the Formula Opel Lotus Euro Series , in which he was 16th in 1991 and eighth in 1992 . In 1992 he was second in the Nations Cup of Formula Opel Lotus and in 1993 seventh. In 1994 he switched to German Formula 3 and finished fifth, and he also contested the Formula 3 Grand Prix in Macau. In 1995 he was fifth in the German Formula 3, 22nd at the Formula 3 Grand Prix in Monaco and eighth at the Formula 3 Grand Prix in Macau. He also contested a home race in Estoril in the International Touring Car Championship in an Alfa Romeo belonging to the Schübel team. In 1996 he switched to the international Formula 3000 championship and was 13th in the overall standings. In 1997 he stayed loyal to the series and finished 11th at the end of the season. In 1998 and 1999 he drove in the Porsche Supercup and finished ninth in 1999 at the end of the season. He then drove for several years in the Grand Am Sports Car Series and in the Spanish GT Championship, which was later renamed the International GT Open.
