Giampiero Simoni (born September 12, 1969 in Porto San Giorgio ) is an Italian racing driver .

Career

Simoni started his career in karting. In 1989 he switched to the monoposto and started in the British Formula Ford 1600 and finished 14th at the Formula Ford Festival. In 1990 he switched to Italian Formula 3, in which he competed until 1992 (14th place in 1991, 3rd place in 1992). He also competed in the Formula 3 Grand Prix in Monaco in 1991 (14th place) and 1992 (3rd place). In 1992 he switched to the international Formula 3000 series and finished 17th in his debut season. In 1993 he stayed loyal to this series and finished 21st at the end of the season. In 1994 he switched to touring car racing in the British Touring Car Championship and immediately finished fifth in the overall standings. In 1995 he stayed loyal to this series and finished 17th at the end of the season. He also competed in the Spanish touring car championship and at the Diepholz race in the DTM for the Alfa Corse 2 team, but did not finish there. In 1996 he moved to the All-Japan GT Championship and finished 23rd in the GT500 class. In 1997 he started in the Belgian Procar series.
