1993 Formula 3000 season

The 1993 Formula 3000 season was the 9th season of the International Formula 3000 Championship . It began on May 3, 1993 in Donington Park and ended on October 10, 1993 in Nogaro . A total of nine races were driven. Olivier Panis won the drivers' championship title with the DAMS team.

Course of the season

Olivier Beretta joined the Forti Corse team for the 1993 season and won the first race of the season in Donington Park . The reigning British Formula 3 champion Gil de Ferran won the following race at Silverstone .

In Pau there was an accident with several vehicles on the first lap. The race was canceled and restarted, Pedro Lamy won ahead of David Coulthard .

In Enna , Pedro Lamy and David Coulthard fought for victory, the duel was won by Coulthard. Oliver Panis retired, but won the subsequent races at the Hockenheimring , Nürburgring and in Spa-Francorchamps .

In Magny-Cours it started to rain after a few laps. Panis drove to the pits to get rain tires, a wheel bolt was not properly tightened. Olivier Panis didn't get any points with tenth place. Pedro Lamy finished third and came just one point closer to Panis in the drivers' standings.

At the season finale in Nogaro , Pedro Lamy finished in 16th place after problems with the rear suspension. Olivier Panis was eliminated after a collision and won the driving championship with 32 to 31 points ahead of Pedro Lamy and David Coulthard with 25 points.

With three wins of the season for Olivier Panis and two wins for Franck Lagorce (Magny-Cours and Nogaro) DAMS won the team standings with 53 points ahead of Crypton Engineering with 34 points.
