1999 Formula 3000 season
The 1999 Formula 3000 season was the 15th Formula 3000 season . It began on May 1, 1999 in Imola and ended on September 25, 1999 at the Nürburgring . A total of ten races were run. Nick Heidfeld won the drivers 'championship title , and his West Competition team won the teams' championship title. The 1999 season was overshadowed by two strokes of fate: Gonzalo Rodríguez , who finished second until one race before the end of the season, died in an accident in Laguna Seca while making a guest start in the American CART series . Jason Watt , who took second place from Rodríguez in the last race of the season, has been paralyzed since a motorcycle accident that happened a few weeks after the end of the season.
