Career

Haberfeld began his motorsport career in karting in 1991 , where he was active until 1993. In his career he continued to take part in several kart races and won the 500 Milhas de Granja Viana in 2001 and 2003 . In 1994 Haber field in the single-seater racing and was in his first season eleventh of the British Formula Ford . In the following season, the Brazilian stayed in this racing series and improved to fourth place overall. He was also second behind Kevin McGarrity at the Formula Ford Festival .

In 1996 Haberfeld moved to Manor Motorsport in the European Formula Renault and finished fifth in the championship with one win. For the 1997 season, the Brazilian was signed by Martin Donnelly Racing for the British Formula 3 Championship . He won two races and finished sixth in the championship. In 1998 Haberfeld played his second season in the British Formula 3 championship for Paul Stewart Racing , where he became a team-mate of Luciano Burti . The Brazilian won six races this year and secured the championship title from his compatriots Enrique Bernoldi and Burti.

In 1999 he was signed by West Competition for Formula 3000 and became a teammate of Nick Heidfeld . The season was very disappointing for Haberfeld: While Heidfeld dominated the championship, the Brazilian was only able to qualify for half of the races and remained the whole season with a 14th place as the best result without points. In 2000 he switched to Fortec Motorsport , where he got a German team-mate in Alexander Scheld . Haberfeld managed to qualify in every race and he was faster than Scheld, but he still remained without points. It was significant that Jamie Davies , who represented Haberfeld for two races, achieved second place on the same team.

For the 2001 , Haberfeld received a cockpit at Super Nova Racing as a team-mate from Mark Webber . With a fourth place in Barcelona , he achieved his first and only point placement this season. At the end of the season he finished 15th overall. Once again, his performance was dwarfed by his team-mate who was runner-up. In 2002 the Brazilian contested his fourth season in Formula 3000 and started alongside Rob Nguyen for the Astromega team . For the first time in his Formula 3000 career he was able to regularly score points and with a third and a second place he made it onto the podium twice. At the end of the season, he finished seventh in the drivers' championship.

In 2003 Haberfeld left Formula 3000 and switched to the CART series for Conquest Racing . With a fourth place as the best result, he finished twelfth overall at the end of the season. In 2004 , the Brazilian stayed in the CART series, which had since been renamed Champ Car. He competed for Walker Racing and again achieved fourth place as the best result. In the overall standings, he took 13th place.

After he had not started in any racing series in 2005, he entered the Grand-Am Sports Car Series in 2006 . Haberfeld won a race and finished 13th overall. He then competed for Embassy Racing in a Radical SR9 in 2007 and in an Embassy WF01 in 2008 for a total of three races in the Le Mans Series . In 2007 he achieved a podium finish in Interlagos with second place in the LMP2 class.
