Formula 3000 season 2000
The Formula 3000 season 2000 was the 16th season of the Formula 3000 . It began on April 8, 2000 in Imola and ended on August 26, 2000 in Spa-Francorchamps . A total of ten races were run. Bruno Junqueira won the drivers' championship title ; the championship of the teams won the D2 Playlife Super Nova .
Course of the season
Nicolas Minassian won the season opener in Imola ahead of Bruno Junqueira and Mark Webber . Mark Webber won race two at rainy Silverstone , while Junqueira finished fifth, Minassian finished eleventh without points. Webber took the lead in the championship after the race at Silverstone. Junqueira won in Barcelona , at the Nürburgring and in Monaco , took the lead in the championship and gained a point lead. Minassian finished second in Barcelona, collided with Bas Leinders in the rain at the Nürburgring , and in Monaco he finished fifth.
Junqueira started the second half of the season with a 20-point lead. He was thirteenth in Magny-Cours and he didn't score any points in Spielberg either. Minassian won both races and drew level with Junqueira in the championship.
Tomas Scheckter , son of Formula 1 World Champion Jody Scheckter , made his Formula 3000 debut in Austria. However, he was eliminated after a suspension damage. At Hockenheim his team-mate Tomáš Enge won , Scheckter came second and Webber third. Junqueira retired with a broken shift linkage and Minassian did not make it into the points.
On the Hungaroring , Junqueira asserted himself against Fernando Alonso and won his fourth race of the season. At the season finale in Spa-Francorchamps , Minassian finished fourth, which was not enough for him to win the championship, even if Junqueira only finished ninth. Junqueira won the championship with 48 to 45 points, while Alonso scored his first Formula 3000 victory at Spa-Francorchamps.

All drivers used Lola B99 / 50 chassis with Zytek V8 engines and Avon tires .
