Team Astromega
Team Astromega is a Belgian automobile racing team. The team is based in Heist-op-den-Berg .
history
The team was founded in 1995 by the then Belgian Formula 3000 racing driver Mikke Van Hool and his father Marcel in order to create good framework conditions for Mikke after a mixed season in 1994 . After a less than successful 1995 season with Van Hool as the only driver, it already developed into a competitive competitor as a two-car team in 1996 and achieved two race victories with Marc Goossens and third place overall in the drivers' and team championships. In 1998 and 1999 , each with Gonzalo Rodríguez , two further third overall positions in the drivers' standings followed. Up to and including 2001 , the team won at least one race per season. In 2003 Werner Gillis joined the team as " CEO ". After the International Formula 3000 Championship occurred in 2005 and sporadically in 2006 in the Italian Formula 3000 and Euro Series 3000 on, in the Giacomo Ricci was 2005 third overall and also functioned from 2005 to 2009 as team of A1 Team China in the A1GP series, where one or the other notable success was achieved. In 2008 it also provided Flamengo Rio de Janeiro and RSC Anderlecht in the Superleague Formula and enabled Craig Dolby and Anderlecht to finish sixth in the overall standings.
The Astromega team was also active in the “lower” formula series . In the Belgian Formula Renault 1.6, which existed from 2003 to 2007 , the team took part in 2006 and 2007 and in those years reached the drivers' championship with Craig Dolby and Karlīne Štāla , the latter being the first title win by a woman in an international formula series. In 2010 it competed with Sam Dejonghe in the Formula Renault NEC and helped him finish fifth overall.
In 2008 the team fielded several Lamborghini Gallardo GT3s in the Belgian GT championship as JD by Astromega .
With Gastón Mazzacane (1998), Justin Wilson (1999), Fernando Alonso ( 2000 ) and Giorgio Pantano (2001), four future Formula 1 drivers drove for Team Astromega in Formula 3000 times.
