Karlīne Štāla (2008)

Karlīne Štāla (born March 5, 1986 in Riga ) is a Latvian racing driver . She is considered to be the first woman in the world to win an international monoposto racing series.

Beginnings in motorsport

Štāla began her motorsport career in 2000 in the Latvian kart championship ( ICA Junior class) and was sixth overall. Another season in the series followed and then the promotion to the Rotax Max junior class of the Austrian RM and Latvian kart championships, which she finished with an overall seventh and fifth place respectively. In 2003 she finished the series in four and two overall positions, and she also finished 19th in the Rotax Max Euro Challenge . In the same year, she also tested a Formula Ford and a Formula BMW racing car. In the following season she reached eighth place overall in the RM-1 class of the Rotax Max Euro Challenge, followed by eighth overall place in the Finnish Legend Car Championship in 2005 . In 2003 and 2004 she also took part in the Baltic Toyota-Yaris Cup.

Winner of the Belgian Formula Renault championship

At the beginning of 2006, Štāla switched to the Belgian Formula Renault 1.6 championship and thus to monoposto sport. After a season with no exceptional results for the MRD Motorsport Europe team, she was able to secure the championship win in 2007, driving for the Astromega team , with two wins, two fastest race laps and a total of 10 podium positions with 178 points in twelve races. With this success, she was the first woman to win an international single-seater series. However, in 1987 Ellen Lohr won the German Formula Ford Championship , which can also be viewed as an international formula series. As a prize for success, Karlīne Štāla was allowed to test drive a World Series by Renault 3.5-liter car in Paul Ricard for Fortec Motorsport in November 2007 .

Formula 3

In 2008, Štāla was one of three drivers to get a place in the German ATS Formula 3 Cup with the Luxembourg team Racing Experience . After moderate results despite the current vehicle ( Dallara F307 Mercedes ), she left the team after the fourth race weekend at the Hockenheimring and made a guest appearance for the TT Racing Team in the Finnish Formula 3 at the event on the EST-Ring (fifth place as the best Single result) and finally returned with the Swiss Racing Team for the last three racing weekends in the German F3 Cup. She ended the season without points. She could only cause a stir at the race weekend at the Sachsenring when she sent competitor Giulio Glorioso into a rollover.

Professional

Štāla studies international tourism management at the Business School "Turība" ( Biznesa augstskola "Turība" ).
