Norberto Fontana (born January 20, 1975 in Arrecifes ) is an Argentine automobile racing driver who u. a. started in Formula 1 for a short time .

Career

Fontana drove karting for a long time . In 1992 he became champion in the Argentine Formula Renault . In 1993 he became champion in the Swiss Formula Ford . In the same year he drove in the European Formula Ford and came third in the overall standings. In 1994 he started in the German Formula 3 championship . Fontana finished the season in 6th place. In 1995 he became a Formula 1 test driver at Sauber and champion of the German Formula 3. In 1996 he continued to be a test driver at Sauber and at the same time drove races in Formula Nippon and in the International Formula 3000 Championship .

Fontana competed in four Formula 1 races for the Sauber team in the 1997 season . His first race was the French Grand Prix , where he retired after a driving error. At the British Grand Prix and the German Grand Prix he achieved his best placings with ninth place each. After his fourth Grand Prix race at the European Grand Prix , he retired from Formula 1.

Fontana then drove back to Formula Nippon in 1997 and 1998 . In 1999 he drove in the International Formula 3000 Championship and finished 15th at the end of the year. In 2000 he contested a few races in the ChampCar World Series . At the same time, he drove a Toyota in the Argentine touring car championship . In 2001 he took part in three races of the International Formula 3000 Championship.

From 2002 to 2010 he drove again in the Argentine touring car championship. In 2002 and 2010 he won this series with a Toyota.
