All drivers were within four and a half seconds.
Saturday training
Villeneuve set the fastest time ahead of Alesi with 1: 23.194. Behind them are Giancarlo Fisichella , Mika Häkkinen and Ralf Schumacher .
All drivers were placed within five seconds.
Qualifying
Alesi was able to prevail over Frentzen by five hundredths. This is followed by Fisichella, Villeneuve, Häkkinen and Coulthard at seven hundredths.
All drivers were placed within five seconds.
It was only Alesi's second and final pole position in his career.
Warm-up
Häkkinen was the fastest ahead of Ralf Schumacher and Coulthard with 1: 24.234. The only thing worth mentioning is that Tarso Marques is almost 14 seconds behind the best time of the session.
run
Jean Alesi won the start and kept the lead until halfway through the race, but after a bad pit stop, Mika Häkkinen , Michael Schumacher and then David Coulthard , who had started from six, took the lead.
Mika Häkkinen's race was overshadowed by bad luck, because at the first pit stop he ran out of fuel a few meters from the pit, but he was just able to save himself over the pit line. After the stop came the next setback when his tire lost air and he had to stop again for fresh tires. He was one of four drivers who stopped more than once.
Coulthard was able to save his two-second lead over the finish line and win the race. Coulthard dedicated the victory to Princess Diana , who died just a week before the race.
