Tarso Marques (born January 19, 1976 in Curitiba ) is a Brazilian automobile racing driver .

Career

Marques drove 24 races for Minardi in Formula 1 between 1996 and 2001 . He made his debut at the Brazilian Grand Prix in 1996 , but fell out just like at the subsequent Argentina Grand Prix . In the 1997 season he was part of the regular cast, but also rarely crossed the finish line. He was disqualified once at the Japanese Grand Prix in 1997 because his car fell below the minimum weight during training. His best result was tenth place in the British Grand Prix .

After the team had changed both drivers in 1998 , he switched to the Champ Car series the following year , where he replaced the injured two-time Indy 500 winner Al Unser Jr. in the Penske team . His best result was a ninth place. In 2000, 2004, and 2005 he drove sporadically in this series for Dale Coyne's team . His best result in those years was a seventh place in Fontana in 2000.

In 2001 , as a team-mate of newcomer Fernando Alonso , Marques was again committed as a regular driver at Minardi in Formula 1. This year was also marked by many failures, the best result being ninth places in Brazil and Canada . At the Grand Prix of Great Britain he could not qualify. He was regularly beaten both in the race and in qualifying by his team-mate and was eventually replaced by Alex Yoong after the Belgian Grand Prix due to his sponsors. With his last race in Formula 1, he took part in a total of 26 Grand Prix, but only entered 24 races.

From 2006 he drove in the Brazilian racing series Stock Car Brasil . In 2009, Marques tested positive for steroids during a doping control and was banned for two years.
