The 2015 Italian Grand Prix (officially Formula 1 Gran Premio D′Italia 2015 ) took place on September 6th at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in Monza and was the twelfth race of the 2015 Formula 1 World Championship .

After the Belgian Grand Prix , Lewis Hamilton led the drivers' standings by 28 points over Nico Rosberg and 67 points over Sebastian Vettel . In the constructors' championship, Mercedes led Ferrari with 184 points and Williams with 265 points .
At the Italian Grand Prix, Pirelli provided the drivers with the tire compounds P Zero Medium (white) and P Zero Soft (yellow), as well as Cinturato Intermediates (green) and Cinturato Full Wets (blue) for wet conditions . As a result of several tire damages in the previous race, Pirelli increased the prescribed minimum tire pressure.
There were two DRS zones, the first zone was behind the Curva di Lesmos , the measuring point was 95 meters in front of the curve entrance of the second Curva di Lesmos . The measuring point for the second zone was 20 meters in front of the Curva Parabolica , the DRS zone was on the start-finish straight.
Before the race, it was announced that Mercedes was using a further developed version of the Mercedes-Benz PU106B Hybrid during the race . Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains used all seven tokens still available for this .
Pastor Maldonado (six), Marcus Ericsson , Max Verstappen (five), Romain Grosjean , Sergio Pérez (four each), Vettel (three), Jenson Button , Hamilton, Nico Hülkenberg , Daniil Kwjat and Roberto Merhi (two each) went with penalty points into the race weekend.
With Vettel (three times), Fernando Alonso and Hamilton (twice each) three former winners competed at this Grand Prix.
The race stewards were Paolo Longoni (ITA), Tim Mayer (USA), Lars Österlind (SWE) and Danny Sullivan (USA).

In the first free practice, Hamilton set the fastest time in 1: 24.670 minutes ahead of Rosberg and Vettel. After an accident by Carlos Sainz jr. interrupted due to a gearbox defect.
In the second free practice session, Hamilton also set the fastest time in 1: 24.279 minutes, again ahead of Rosberg and Vettel.
In the third free practice, Hamilton set the fastest time with a lap time of 1: 24.544 minutes ahead of Vettel and Rosberg. Daniel Ricciardo had to park his vehicle early with an engine failure.
Qualifying
The qualifying consisted of three parts with a net running time of 45 minutes. In the first qualifying segment (Q1), the drivers had 18 minutes to qualify for the race. All drivers who achieved a time in the first section that was a maximum of 107 percent of the fastest lap time qualified for the Grand Prix. The best 15 drivers reached the next part. Hamilton was fastest. Verstappen lost its engine cover while driving and was therefore unable to set any time. In addition, the two Marussia and McLaren drivers retired.
The second qualifying segment (Q2) lasted 15 minutes. Hamilton was again fastest. Ricciardo, who could not set time, Kwjat, Sainz, Felipe Nasr and Maldonado were eliminated.
The final section lasted twelve minutes, during which the first ten starting positions were assigned. Hamilton secured pole position with a time of 1: 23.397 minutes ahead of Raikkonen and Vettel. Hamilton achieved his eleventh pole position this season and the seventh in a row.
Several drivers received starting place penalties. Ericsson was relegated three starting positions back because of Hülkenberg's handicap in the first qualifying segment. Sainz was moved 35 starting positions back because of the use of the fifth and sixth internal combustion engine, the fifth turbocharger, the fifth MGU-H and the fifth MGU-K. Kwjat was also reduced to 35 starting positions because of the use of the sixth and seventh internal combustion engine and the fifth and sixth turbocharger as well as an early change of gearbox, his teammate Ricciardo because of the use of the sixth and seventh internal combustion engine, the fifth and sixth turbolard, the fifth and sixth MGU-H and the fifth and sixth MGU-K even shifted 50 starting positions back. Button and Alonso were moved back because of the use of the ninth internal combustion engine, Button by five starting positions, Alonso by ten. Verstappen was moved 30 starting positions back because of the use of the seventh internal combustion engine, the fifth turbocharger and the fifth MGU-K, as well as a removed FIA seal.

Lewis Hamilton won the race ahead of Sebastian Vettel and Felipe Massa.
For the second time in his Formula 1 career, Hamilton managed what is known as a “ perfect race ” because, starting from pole position, he finished all laps as the leader, thus achieving a start-to-finish victory and also driving the fastest race lap . He had previously achieved this at the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix . In addition, he had already achieved the best time in all three free practice sessions and in each section of the qualification.
