The Lotus E23 Hybrid is the Formula 1 - racing cars of the Lotus F1 Team for the Formula 1 World Championship 2015 . It is the team's sixth racing car since owned by Genii Capital and is the 23rd racing car designed and built at the Enstone factory in the UK ; therefore it has the letter "E" and the number "23" in its name. Illustrations of the car were posted on the team's website on January 26, 2015.
Technology and development
The E23 is the successor to the E22 . Due to rule changes for the 2015 Formula 1 season, the vehicle is visually different from the previous model, as the provisions in the area of the vehicle nose have been significantly changed. After Lotus was the only designer to choose a so-called "double prong" solution on the vehicle nose for the E22, the nose of the E23 is very short and does not protrude forward over the front wing. It hardly differs optically from the nose of the Mercedes F1 W06 Hybrid .
Otherwise there are only very few visual differences to the E22. The construction of the airbox directly above the cockpit is noticeable; there are two large inlet ducts on the side slightly below the airbox. There is also a fourth, significantly smaller air inlet directly behind the driver's helmet.
The E23 is powered by the Mercedes-Benz PU106B Hybrid , a 1.6-liter V6 engine with a turbocharger . This makes it the team's first car that is not powered by a Renault engine.
In mid-January 2015, the team announced that the vehicle had passed all mandatory crash tests .
In the course of the season, the team almost stopped developing the car due to financial bottlenecks. For the same reason, the service life of some components has been significantly extended compared to previous years.
Painting and sponsorship
Like its predecessor, the E23 is painted in black and gold. Thanks to the sponsor PDVSA , the car is also given red accents on the front wing, rear wing and rear-view mirrors. Other sponsor stickers come from Genii Capital , EMC Corporation , Microsoft Dynamics , Saxo Bank and YotaPhone .
driver
Lotus also competed in the 2015 season with the driver duo Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado . In addition, Jolyon Palmer contested the first free practice at various Grands Prix.
