Arnd Meier

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Arnd Meier (born March 1, 1973 in Hanover ) is a former German racing driver . He became known through his two-year engagement in the American Champ Car series.

Career

Meier began his career in karting in 1984 , which he did until 1990. He finished the German Formula 3 championship in 1996 in second place in the overall standings behind Jarno Trulli , but ahead of his teammate Nick Heidfeld . In 1997 he moved to the American CART World Series for Team Project Indy. He caught attention in his first race in Australia when he led the field for two laps as a result of his team's pit strategy. However, since his racing team - as the only one in the field - used a car based on a technically inferior Lola chassis, Meier was unable to achieve good results. In total, Arnd Meier took part in 29 races in the Champ-Car series. His best result was a 10th place in 1998 on the Road America course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

In 1999 Meier returned to Europe, drove in Formula 3000 and took part in touring car races. In 2004 he won the BFGoodrich endurance championship with René Wolff in a BMW 318i . Since the end of his racing career, Meier has worked as an engineer in the automotive industry.
