Antonio Tamburini (racing driver)

Antonio Tamburini (born September 15, 1966 in Cortona , Arezzo province ) is a former Italian racing driver .

Tamburini started karting in 1982 . In 1985 he switched to formula racing. In 1988 he won the Formula 3 -race the opening act of the Monaco Grand Prix of Formula 1 in a Dallara F388- Alfa Romeo . In 1989 he drove a full Formula 3 season and finished second in the Italian championship with a Reynard 893 Alfa Romeo. He also won the Formula 3 race in Monaco this year.

In 1990 he switched to Formula 3000 , where he drove for Team Roni . It was a disappointing season that he finished 13th overall with just six points from 10 races. For the following season he switched to Pacific Racing and was able to take his first victory at Le Mans . The fourth place in the overall classification with 22 points aroused the interest of the Formula 1 team Larrousse . However, the change to Formula 1 did not materialize and so he drove touring cars in 1992 .

In his first season in the Italian super touring car championship , he achieved one victory and eight podium finishes with an Alfa Romeo 155 GTA and was fourth in the overall standings.

In 1993 he returned to Formula 3000 for three races, but without success. So he started again in the Italian super touring car championship in 1994. Again with an Alfa Romeo 155, he scored 182 points and thus secured second place in the overall standings. In 1995 he was fourth overall with 179 points. At the end of the 1997 season, he retired from motor racing.
