Reversing system

A reversing system is used to support the driver of a road vehicle when reversing , in particular as a parking aid . These systems have been used for a number of years, especially in vehicles that are difficult to see, such as trucks , coaches and commercial vehicles. More recently, such systems have also found their way into cars .

A reversing system generally consists of a rearview video camera, a monitor (7-inch flat screens are often used), a wiring harness and, in better systems, a control box that prevents overvoltage. Most reversing systems run on a voltage of 12 to 24 volts and are manufactured in China or Korea .

Video reversing systems eliminate the blind spot behind a vehicle and thus reduce the risk of accidents when reversing. By taking pictures from a rear-view camera and transmitting them to a monitor at the driver's site by cable or radio, he knows, even without the help of third parties, whether someone is behind the vehicle or how far the distance from an obstacle is. In this way, property damage and injuries can be avoided. Video reversing systems are used in a wide variety of vehicle types. The range includes motorhomes , cars, buses , trucks, agricultural and construction machinery , rescue , fire service and municipal vehicles as well as industrial trucks .

Reversing systems meet the requirements of Directive 2003/97 / EC and Section 56 Paragraph 2 No. 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations . These regulations stipulate that since January 2007 vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of over 3.5 tonnes and buses must be equipped with devices for indirect vision so that the vehicle driver can observe all major traffic processes behind, to the side and immediately in front of the vehicle can.
