Pontiac Solstice aka Jazz in Transformers

The Pontiac Solstice is a sports car of the GM brand Pontiac , which was produced from summer 2005 to mid-2009. It was available as a roadster and, in 2009, as a coupé .

The Solstice was first shown as a concept study in 2002; the official introduction of the production version took place in early 2004 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Production at the Wilmington plant in the US state of Delaware was supposed to start in spring 2005, but problems at the plant meant that production could not start until the third quarter of 2005.

Like its sister models Saturn Sky , Daewoo G2X and Opel GT , the Solstice is based on the GM Kappa platform, but has a slightly independent body. All four models were manufactured by the end of July 2009.

In the course of GM's bankruptcy and the associated restructuring, production was discontinued in July 2009 and the plant in Delaware closed after a total of 65,724 Solstice had been built.

history

The Solstice, available from USD 19,995 (2005), won both the Car of the Year and the 2006 Design of the Year awards in the USA . The roadster proved to be a success for Pontiac from the start - 7,000 orders were received within the first 10 days alone. 6000 more had been added by the end of 2005.

Since Pontiac had originally expected a demand of 7,000 copies for the first year of production, GM increased production. On March 1, 2006, the ten thousandth copy of the Solstice rolled off the assembly line. In mid-December 2005 the base price was raised to USD 20,490, but many customers actually paid surcharges of USD 5,000 and more to receive a Solstice. In 2008, the starting price was USD 23,075 (approx. € 14,600) for the model with 2.4 l and 129 kW.

In the movie Transformers , the Pontiac Solstice is the alternative form for the Autobot called Jazz.

Solstice GXP

The Solstice GXP debuted at the Los Angeles Motor Show in January 2006. Like the Opel GT and the Saturn Sky Red Line, it is powered by a 194 kW (264 hp) turbo version of the Ecotec two-liter. With an output of 130 hp / liter, it is specifically the most powerful series engine ever built by GM, as well as the first gasoline engine from the USA with direct injection.

The GXP, which cost approximately $ 24,000 USD, came as standard with traction control, limited-slip differential, ABS and 18-inch rims. In contrast to the basic model, the GXP was also offered with a yellow paint finish.
