The G8 is a sports sedan from the former car brand Pontiac, which until 2010 belonged to General Motors . After GM went bankrupt in 2009 and the model range was restructured, the Pontiac brand was given up at the end of 2010.

The G8 was largely identical to the old model generation of the Holden Commodore and was therefore manufactured in Australia, but sold exclusively in North America.

The sporty car was introduced in early 2008 (in Canada 2009) as a four-door sedan and is a model in the upper middle class ( full-size car ). A station wagon version that was originally also planned was discarded.

history

The G8 is based on the new Zeta platform (Global rear wheel drive) from GM and therefore has rear-wheel drive. It is also available as a G8 GT and G8 GXP . The base engine is a 3.6-liter V6 with 191 kW and a 5-speed automatic. The GT accelerates from 0 to 60 mph (0–96 km / h) in just under 5 seconds thanks to the 269 kW 6-liter V8 engine with 6-speed automatic. All models are equipped as standard with six airbags, traction control, ESP and 18-inch alloy wheels. Prices start at $ 26,910 for the basic V6 engine, at $ 29,310 for the GT version, and at $ 37,610 for the G8 GXP.

In addition to the sedan, a two-seater pickup version based on the Holden Ute was presented at the New York International Auto Show in March 2008 . The G8 ST (Sport Truck), slated for 2010, was to become Pontiac's first pickup truck, and GM's first coupe utility in North America since the Chevrolet El Camino , which was discontinued in 1987 .

In January 2009, Pontiac announced to its dealers that the G8 ST will no longer be introduced due to budget cuts and restructuring in the GM group.
