The Pontiac Firefly was a car model offered in Canada and the Middle East by the US manufacturer Pontiac .

The Firefly was a variant of the Suzuki Swift .

The Firefly was introduced in Canada in late 1984 as the successor to the Pontiac Acadian and was sold until 1991; from 1994 to 2000 there was a successor of the same name. Sister models of the Firefly were the Chevrolet Sprint , the Geo Metro and the Chevrolet Metro . In 1989 and 1995 extensive model updates took place .

Initially, the Firefly was manufactured exclusively by Suzuki in Japan. In 1990 production began in the Canadian plant of CAMI, a joint venture between General Motors and Suzuki. Until 1994 there was only one single engine available, a one-liter three-cylinder, which was also available in a turbo version from 1987 to 1991 . In addition, a 1.3-liter four-cylinder came into the range in 1995.

From 1991 to 1994, in addition to the hatchback model, a convertible and a four-door notchback sedan were also offered; While the hatchback versions were produced by CAMI, the convertible and notchback were made in Japan.

In 2000 the Firefly was withdrawn from the offer. It only found a successor in 2005 with the Pontiac Wave (only available in Canada) .
