The Pontiac Custom Torpedo Series JC was a luxury class passenger car manufactured by Pontiac , a General Motors brand , in the 1941 model year .
Parallel to the Deluxe Torpedo and the Streamliner Torpedo , the Custom Torpedo was offered on the long GM-C chassis. The cars in the “Silver Streak” design (chrome strips on the bonnet from the radiator grille to the lower edge of the windshield) were available as a 2-door coupé, 4-door sedan and 5-door “Woody” station wagon (made of wood at the rear). The interior was made of synthetic leather. There was also a deluxe station wagon with real leather upholstery.
There was either a six-cylinder in-line engine with 3919 cc operating at 3,200 min -1 gave 90 hp (66 kW), or an eight-cylinder in-line engine with 4079 cc capacity, of 103 bhp (76 kW) at 3500 min -1 made. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a single-disc dry clutch, a three-speed gearbox with steering wheel and a cardan shaft.
In the following year, the model was discontinued without replacement. In the only year of production, 25,448 cars were built.
