The Pontiac V8 Series 302 was a luxury class passenger car manufactured by Pontiac , a General Motors brand , in 1932 . The model was adopted by Oakland , a brand that GM gave up that year.
It was equipped with a side-controlled V8 engine with 4113 cm³ displacement, which delivered 85 bhp (62.5 kW) at 3200 min −1 . The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a single-disc dry clutch, a fully synchronized three-speed gearbox with center shift and a cardan shaft. Only the rear wheels were mechanically braked. All wheels had wire spokes.
Like the smaller six-cylinder model from the 402 series , the V8 was available as a 2-door coupé with two or four seats, as a 2-door convertible with two or four seats and as a five-seat sedan with 2 or 4 doors. The chassis had a wheelbase 3 ″ longer than the six-cylinder models, so it was possible to fit a spare wheel between the bonnet and doors on each side (the six-cylinder models had the spare wheel mounted at the rear). The front of the vehicle and the appearance of the bodies otherwise corresponded to the smaller model.
In the following year, the Economy Eight model with an in-line engine replaced the V8. In the only year of production, 6,281 V8s were built.
