Andrea Schwalbach
Andrea Schwalbach (* 1963 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German music theater director.
Life
Andrea Schwalbach studied philosophy, German and theater studies at the Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Frankfurt . In 1990/1991 she received a scholarship from the international theater institute in Berlin.
This was followed by assistance at the Stuttgart State Theater, the Salzburg Festival, the Frankfurt Opera, the Opéra de la Monnaie Brussels and the Aalto-Theater Essen a. a. with the directors Peter Mussbach , Karl Ernst Herrmann and Ursel Herrmann. Under the direction of Peter Mussbach, she took part in the production of the Mozart operas Lucio Silla for the Salzburg Festival and Don Giovanni for the Frankfurt Opera. She worked with British director Brian Michaels on Frank Zappa's project The Yellow Shark , which was performed in 1992 with Ensemble Modern Frankfurt at the Alte Oper Frankfurt.
Together with the dramaturge Regine Elzenheimer , the composer Gerhard Müller-Hornbach and the director Stephan Buchberger , Andrea Schwalbach co-founded the “Mutare Musiktheater Ensemble” in Frankfurt am Main in 1990. Numerous productions were created with the ensemble, such as B. Crossfade - a piece about romanticism and jazz that she developed with the jazz composer Gabriele Hasler for the Mousonturm Frankfurt and the May Festival Wiesbaden. With Alessandro Sbordoni she staged the world premiere of the play Sehn-Sucht, inspired by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's novel Wilhelm Meister , in coproduction with the Academia Filarmonica Rome and the Theaterhaus Frankfurt . Also under her direction, the music theater Fünf zu Acht 5: 8 by the composer Gerhard Müller-Hornbach premiered in 1994 .
Andrea Schwalbach is married and has three children.
Productions for contemporary music theater
For the Stuttgart State Opera , Schwalbach staged Expedition zur Erde by Bernhard König and Der Schweinhirt by Gerhard Schedl in 2000 and 2001 . Two world premieres followed in 2002, Operation Midnight by Richard Farber for the Bonn Opera as part of the series Bonn-Chance and Weil's Kind sleep wants by Christoph Coburger and Franzobel for the Landestheater Linz . Under her direction was La Prova d'Orchestra by Giorgio Battistelli for the Landestheater Linz and the Vlaamse Opera Antwerp / Ghent.
In 2007 she staged Il prigioniero by Luigi Dallapiccola and L'enfant et les sortilèges by Maurice Ravel for the Hanover State Opera and in 2010 the world premiere of Superflumina by Sciarrino at the Nationaltheater Mannheim . For the Osnabrück Theater she worked on the world premiere of operetta based on Witold Gombrowicz by Mario Wiegand and in 2011 the German premiere of Adriana Mater by Kaija Saariaho . Under her direction, the music theater evening about Stravinsky's Theater of the Grotesque Tilimbom took place in 2012 : or listen with open eyes and the like. a. Mavra / Petruschka / Pastorale for the Frankfurt Opera . In the same year she staged the world premiere of The Four Years Posten by Franz Schubert based on Elfriede Jelinek and Irene Dische for the Heidelberg Theater . Under her direction, the romantic project Before the Uprising was performed at the Hanover State Opera in 2013 as well as the rarely performed opera The Rape of Lucretia by Benjamin Britten at the Bielefeld Theater in 2014 . The second performance of Mieczyslaw Weinberg's opera Der Idiot based on the novel by Fjodor Dostojewski , which received a FAUST nomination for best production, was performed at the Staatstheater Oldenburg , as well as the rarely performed opera Satyagraha by Philip Glass in 2016.
