Philippe Boesmans
Philippe Boesmans (born May 17, 1936 in Tongeren ) is a Belgian composer and organist .
Life
Philippe Boesmans studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Liège (Conservatoire Royal de Liège). Philippe Boesmans is an autodidact as a composer. His first compositions date from 1960, after contacts with Pierre Froidebise , Henri Pousseur , Célestin Deliège (1922–2010) and André Souris (1899–1970) encouraged him to do so. Since 1985 he has been the resident composer of the Brussels Opera La Monnaie , on whose behalf he composed several operas. He worked closely with the director Luc Bondy (1948–2015), who adapted four operatic themes for him and then staged the world premieres.
His works are regularly featured on the programs of the relevant festivals in Darmstadt, Warsaw, Zagreb, Brussels, Royan, Metz and Avignon.
The world premiere of the opera Au monde received the International Opera Award in 2015.

- Winter's Tale (1999); Libretto by Luc Bondy and Marie-Louise Bischofberger based on the play The Winter's Tale ( The Winter's Tale ) by William Shakespeare . First performance December 10, 1999, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie , Brussels; German premiere: Braunschweig State Theater 2001.
- Julie (2005); Libretto by Luc Bondy and Marie-Louise Bischofberger based on the play Froken Julie by August Strindberg . German premiere at the Braunschweig State Theater in 2006.
- Yvonne, princesse de Bourgogne (2009); Libretto by Luc Bondy and Marie-Louise Bischofberger based on the play Iwona Księżniczka Burgunda (German: Yvonne, the Burgundy Princess ) by Witold Gombrowicz .
- Orchestration of Claudio Monteverdi's opera L'incoronazione di Poppea for modern instruments. German premiere at the Braunschweig State Theater in 2006.
- Au monde (2014). Libretto by Joël Pommerat based on his play of the same name. World premiere March 30, 2014, Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie, Brussels; German premiere at the Theater Aachen 2015.
- Pinocchio (2017). Libretto by Joël Pommerat after Carlo Collodis Pinocchio . First performance July 3, 2017, Grand Théâtre de Provence Aix-en-Provence.
