Jochen Biganzoli (born 1963 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German opera director .

life and work

Biganzoli studied theater and musicology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . He then worked as an assistant director at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and at the Bremen Theater . Parallel to his theater work, he taught at the University of the Arts in Bremen for five years . In Bremen he was also able to direct the production himself for the first time. This was followed by an engagement as senior theater director and division manager for the music theater at the Kleist Theater in Frankfurt (Oder) .

Biganzoli has been working as a freelancer since 1999. A long-term working relationship connects him with the State Theater Eisenach , where he staged, among others, Das Land des Smiles , Luisa Miller , La Bohème , the Rosenkavalier and Gounod's Margarethe . He also took on directing work at a number of other houses - for example in Augsburg, Barcelona, ​​Detmold, Dresden, Flensburg, Gera, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Leipzig and Pforzheim. In June 2010 he opened the Schumann Days of the city of Zwickau , on the composer's 200th birthday, with his version of Robert Schumann's Genoveva , a rarely performed opera . The Leipzig Opera engaged him in October 2010 for a new production of the Meistersinger von Nürnberg on the occasion of their 50th anniversary.

In the 2012/13 season he staged three seldom played one-act plays by Paul Hindemith at the Osnabrück Theater . This production was particularly praised by Gerhard Rohde , the opera critic of the Frankfurter Allgemeine . This was followed by his debut at the Hamburg State Opera in September 2013 with the opera version by Meister and Margarita von York Höller . In 2016 he staged for the first time at the Semperoper in Dresden. In 2018 he took over the opening premiere at the International Handel Festival in Halle an der Saale, Berenice from Georg Friedrich Händel .

Biganzoli lives in Bremen.
