Horst Kirschner (born August 20, 1932 in Langen (Geestland) , today: City of Geestland ) is a German dentist and university professor for dentistry.

Life

Horst Kirschner was born in Langen on the border with Bremerhaven. He attended high school in Bremen, where he passed his school leaving examination in 1953. He then studied dentistry at the University of Göttingen and later in Saarland. He joined the Hannovera fraternity in Göttingen , where he distinguished himself as a good fencer.

After the state examination in 1958 and his license to practice medicine, he was promoted to Dr. med. dent. PhD at the University of Göttingen. In 1961 he worked at the Clinic for Dental, Oral and Jaw Diseases of the Saarland, then at the Dental Clinic of the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf . In 1968 he completed his habilitation at the University of Giessen and was appointed private lecturer. In 1976, Kirschner was appointed to a professorship as head of the department for dental surgery and polyclinic, later he became director of the Medical Center for Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Department of Dental Polyclinic and Oral Surgery.

His areas of expertise are animal experimental and clinical autoradiographic studies, the day-night periodicity in normal and traumatized oral mucosa, connective tissue and bone regeneration, especially after the implantation of various foreign substances in the jawbone. Micromorphological examinations of the implant-tissue boundaries of unloaded and chewed ceramic bodies led to knowledge about clinical applications, technological developments in the direction of a standardized implantation system for experiments as well as internal cooling for surgical bone mills and drills. Comparative thermometric table and animal experiments proved the connection between cooling during the osteotomy and undisturbed wound healing. In a new surgical procedure for tooth preservation with special indications, the roots of diseased teeth are partially amputated and replaced with ceramic. Systematic studies on the periodontal regeneration after autoplastic tooth replantation to restore a functional tooth holding apparatus followed.

Kirschner is the inventor of the tooth rescue box .

Kirschner has been with Inge, geb. Pancake, married. Both have a son (Till Kirschner) and a daughter (Teite Kirschner-Lepper).
