Maximilian Seitz (* 1937 in Trostberg ) is a German painter and graphic artist.

Live and act

Maximilian Seitz was born in 1937 as the son of the teacher Willi Seitz in Trostberg, Upper Bavaria . Two years later the family moved to Sauerlach in what was then the district of Wolfratshausen , as his father found a new job at the local elementary school. After training as a photographer, Maximilian Seitz focused on landscapes and structures from 1955 to 1960.

In 1959, during a stay of several months in Paris, he made the decision to turn to painting. He then began to study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Jean-Jacques Deyrolle , which he graduated with a diploma in 1966 as a master class student . In doing so, he studied the influences of light and shapes on several trips to southern Europe.

Between 1980 and 1987, Seitz held a teaching position for interior design at the Technical University of Rosenheim . In 1986 he was awarded the Schwabing Art Prize and in 1996 the Nymphenburg Art Prize. His works are regularly represented in numerous exhibitions, for example at the 1987 Documenta in Kassel as well as in Frankfurt and New York.

Seitz is also active in the planning and design of interiors and develops installations and design work for objects and furniture. Maximilian Seitz lives in Sauerlach, but his studio is in Munich.
