Hans Brandenburg (writer)

Hans Brandenburg (born October 18, 1885 in Barmen , † May 8, 1968 in Bingen am Rhein ) was a German writer . His work includes novels , poems , literary and biographical works as well as lay sermons . A special field of interest of Brandenburg was the modern expressive dance , which he tried to promote with his writings. He also took an active part in the experiments of Rudolf von Laban and Mary Wigman on Monte Verità and of Émile Jaques-Dalcroze in Hellerau . He also worked as an editor . He earned his living as a lecturer at the Munich Adult Education Center .

Life path

Brandenburg moved to Munich at the age of seventeen and also lived in Eichenau . He was married to the painter Dora Brandenburg-Polster (1884–1958), who illustrated many of his works. In August 1914, the poet joined the army as a war volunteer with the pioneers .

During the Nazi era he was committed to a “national renewal” of the theater and in July 1933 was appointed to the group of poets in the Federal Committee of the Reich Federation of German Open-Air and Popular Drama . Brandenburg was a member of the National Socialist group of Bamberg poets .

His biographical books on well-known poets such as Goethe , Schiller , Hölderlin and Eichendorff , some of which he wrote in Eichenau, were popular at the time.
