Klaus Kreuzeder (born April 4, 1950 in Forchheim ; † November 3, 2014 in Munich ) was a German saxophonist .

Career

Klaus Kreuzeder was born in Forchheim in 1950 and grew up in Altdorf near Nuremberg . Since he had polio at the age of one and a half , he was bound to a wheelchair for life.

In 1971 he performed with Ex Ovo Pro at the Free Open Air Festival in Höhn . From 1973 he belonged to the jazz rock band Aera founded by Muck Groh . When founder Groh left Aera in the late 1970s, Kreuzeder took over the artistic and economic management of the band. He was also involved on the saxophone on Groh's solo LP from 1979 and on the second LP from Groh's subsequent formation Grotesk from 1982.

After the financial ruin of Aera, Kreuzeder turned to smaller projects out of economic hardship in the course of the 1980s, in particular discovering the form of the duo with guitarists for himself. From 1984 he formed a street music duo with Willi Herzinger . In 1985 the producer Steve Leistner became aware of Kreuzeder. Leistner had also suffered economic ruin with his art rock band Wind ten years earlier and offered to produce an album for the duo at their own expense. Since no label could be found for Kreuzeder's street music project, Leistner and Kreuzeder founded the Trick Music label , on which most of Kreuzeder's later publications appeared. With Henzinger, Kreuzeder recorded the album Sax as sax can in 1987 , which in the following year gave the title for the instrumental duo sax as sax can with guitarist Henry Sincigno . The duo existed for over ten years. After separating from Sincigno, Kreuzeder formed the Duo Big Little Gig with the singer and guitarist Franz Benton in 2001, and later in the 2000s he formed the Duo Big Bang Orchestra with the guitarist and violinist Michael Schmitt. From the late 1980s to the late 1990s Kreuzeder also worked on various New Age productions by Oliver Shanti .

From 2001 he appeared in the band of Miroslav Nemec , known as Kriminalhauptkommissar Ivo Batic from the TV series Tatort , to whom he was also friendly. Kreuzeder made a cameo appearance in the crime scene Dreimal Schwarze Kater (2003) .

Kreuzeder also worked with Eberhard Schoener and joined a. a. with Sting , Al Jarreau , Stevie Wonder , Jack Bruce , Gianna Nannini , Bill Withers , Konstantin Wecker and Udo Lindenberg . Various television stations documented both his musical work and the artist's personal fate.

Kreuzeder was politically active in the disabled movement and appeared in 1996 together with Henry Sincigno as a cultural ambassador at the Paralympics in Atlanta . At the request of the Bavarian parliamentary group of the Greens , on May 23, 2009 and June 30, 2010, he was one of the delegates of the Federal Assembly electing the Federal President in Berlin.

The consequences of the post-polio syndrome and cancer, which in combination resulted in severe life-threatening breakdowns, forced Kreuzeder to give up his career as a professional musician in early 2013. He worked until the end as an author on his autobiography and a DVD, the publication of which was planned for 2015.
