Ulrich Schulz (born November 16, 1948 in Hamburg ) - known as Oliver Shanti ( Sanskrit or Hindi for peace ) or Oliver Serano-Alve - is a musician and music producer who stood out through recordings in the style of New Age and world music .

From 2002 to 2008 Ulrich Schulz was searched for by the Munich public prosecutor's office ; the allegation was child abuse . After his extradition from Portugal to Germany, he was sentenced to several years imprisonment in December 2009 .

He became known through albums such as Tai Chi , Well Balanced , Tai Chi Too and Alhambra , which had a circulation of over 100,000 copies. Shanti's music, which he developed in collaboration with other musicians, is characterized by its meditative character. It is strongly influenced by traditional Chinese, Oriental or Indian music. Styles such as New Age and world music were combined. All albums were released on the SATTVA MUSIC label . Shortly after the Shanti scandal, this record company was dissolved and closed.

However, it is unclear to what extent he was actually musically involved in the productions. There was a group of returning main musicians and many guests. So are z. For example, on the best-of album Circles Of Life, 25 artists or artist groups (e.g. choirs) are listed alongside Oliver Shanti. Nevertheless, the CDs were mostly under the name OLIVER SHANTI & FRIENDS .

Criminal proceedings

In the mid-1970s, Schulz was the head of an esoteric community in Viechtach (Bavaria). At the end of the 1980s he moved to Portugal and last lived there on his hacienda in the small town of Vila Nova de Cerveira with around 200 followers in a kind of commune, where he acted as the undisputed leader. After allegations of sexual abuse of four boys and two girls between the ages of ten and 14 were brought against him in more than 300 individual cases, Schulz went into hiding in August 2002. From March 2003 onwards, the public prosecutor at Munich Regional Court I publicly searched for Schulz. The manhunt ended with the arrest of Schulz at the end of June 2008 when he wanted to have his passport extended at the German embassy in Lisbon in order to be treated for a lymphatic cancer in Brazil. On July 4, 2008, he was extradited to Germany and taken to the Stadelheim correctional facility . In 2009, he was charged with 314 sexual abuse charges. Oliver Shanti was infected with the MRSA pathogen while in custody , which is why he had to sit in a glass case with a rubber jacket and mouth-nose protection during the trial . At the end of October 2009, Shanti attempted suicide in the prison's sick bay. On November 5, 2009, Shanti made a partial confession in which he admitted all charges relating to the four boys. On December 4, 2009, he was sentenced to six years and 10 months in prison for child molestation.
