Zé do Rock (born June 3, 1956 in Porto Alegre , Brazil ) is the stage name of a Brazilian writer who has lived in Germany since the 1990s . He writes in German and partly in Portuguese .

Live and act

Zé do Rock, among whose ancestors are German , Lithuanian and Russian immigrants, grew up in Brazil. After graduating from high school, he held a number of jobs and began a multi-year trip around the world in the late 1970s, which he describes in his first book fom winde ferfeelt (1995). In 1986 he shot the low-budget film No Elephants during a long stay in Germany . He settled in Munich in 1992 , where he works as an author and cabaret artist . His books are written in satirically alienated varieties of German and German orthography . In Fom winde ferfeelt , Zé do Rock uses “Ultradoitsh”, a German variant with a simplified and almost phonetic spelling. He wrote his second book UFO in the kitchen (1998), an “autobiographical being-fikschen” in “Wunschdeutsch”, a form based on the vote of around 20,000 viewers in his show readings. In 2002 his book Deutsch gutt otherwise geld back was published , an anthology of stories and essays, written alternately in “Siegfriedisch” (purely Germanic without foreign words) and “Kaudadeutsh” (internationalized, with many foreign words and undone shifting of sounds). In 2004 he began producing his film Schroeder is in Brazil , which premiered on May 12, 2009 in Munich. Well-known cultural clichés are questioned in a humorous way. The title refers to the small town of Schroeder in southern Brazil. In the same year, the book was published every second dies a non-smoker , in which he puts forward the thesis that supposed knowledge is mostly based on prejudice. For his book Per anhalter durch die brasilianische galaxy (2013), he hitchhiked from the Venezuelan border in northern Brazil to the Uruguayan border in the south and interviewed people he met on this trip. Zé do Rock, who claims to have traveled over 130 countries, has written numerous articles for the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Die Zeit , Die Welt , and since 2013 he has been writing primarily for the Berliner Zeitung . He is a member of the PEN Center Germany and lives in Stuttgart and Munich.
